Sorry, I mean that 'for the occasional and fun printer guys' refilling would not be cheaper. I don't think that's the case. As I stated, one Canon cartridge set would cost me close to 70 euros, whereas a refill set would be cheaper and contain about ten times as much ink.
I disagree. A set of Canon cartridges would cost me close to 70 euros. A refill kit from Oktoinkjet is cheaper and it contains 100 ml as opposed to 9 ml from Canon.
First post in this thread is how I did it (I am an unexperienced user, like yourself): http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7915

I got a roll of aluminum tape and replaced the electricians tape with aluminum. No leaking thus far. I also got the plugs from octoinkjet. They perfectly fit the fill hole once the ball is removed. Now going to get some more 520/521 and 525/526 cartridges to prepare an extra set.
I do recommend the aluminium tape. It's little work and better safe than sorry.
Martin is Octoinkjet? I use these plugs as well. They do not stick out of the cartridge, so no clearance problems.
Ive owned several Canon printers. Started with a BJC-4200, followed by an IP4300, MP640 and now an MG6150. From the 4300 I have refilled my cartridges. Not because I print high volumes, but because I dont want to pay the outrageous prices Canon (and others) charge for their ink.
Over the years...
I second that.
I experienced similar problems refilling 525/526 cartridges. I transplanted the chips to (transparent) 520/521 cartridges and removed the seal ball for topfilling with SquEasy bottles. Works like a charm and indeed, no more cleaning of syringes.
Because of the top clearance of...
Thanks again, Joseph. Please allow me to explain why I didn't ask advice before trying. I am also on other forums and on some of these, you will get flamed for asking questions before trying yourself. So, I looked around on this forum, I watched some clips on Youtube and then made up my plan to...
I started this thread because one of the advices in the first thread (http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7822) is to flush the cartridges. As I have never done that before, I took an old cartridge to practice. My practice run resulted in some questions, so that's why.
Joseph, thanks again for your ongoing help. I copy/pasted your last post in a Word document to save it for future reference.
I think we're getting there. You are right about your assumption that I'm trying to get 7 grams of ink in the cartridge (following your example with the 13 gram...
I have never flushed my cartridges yet, so I wanted to practice with an old CLI521 photoblack cartridge that had been laying around for some time. I removed the ball that Canon uses to seal the cartridge and flushed it using a 60 ml syringe. I got the ink out of the sponge pretty well, it looked...
Thank you Joseph for the time you take to help me with this. I appreciate it.
I will insert my remarks in your original text.

The following are my thoughts on MP640s problem(s) with filling his/her carts:
First things first, I use a Canon PIXMA MX870 that uses CLI-221C, M, Y, BK carts...
Sorry, I should have been more clear. ".. but with no succes.." can be interpreted in multiple ways. Sorry about that.
I blew n the location that I marked with a red circle in the picture that I posted. Yes, ink leaked out of the ink exit port (the large hole on the bottom of the cartridge) and...
I tried Stratman's #1 but with no success. I know for shure know that the air vent isn't blocked but still I cannot get more ink in the cartridge. I thought of maybe another explanation. I sometimes have trouble getting the needle into the ink chamber. I must try several times in such cases...
Than you for your reply, Stratman. Maybe we can rule out your cause #1? During refill ink was flowing out from the air vent, so I guess it wasn't blocked?
I have a canon MG6150 printer which takes CLI526/PGI521 cartridges. I have refilled the (opaque) cartridges several times now, using the German Durchstich method, a scale and a chipresetter. I have weighed the cartridges when they came out of the box, the CLI were 20.x grammes and the PGI 34.x...
