The tests are regarding UV-resistance ONLY. No other properties like ink flow, clogging, color matching, saturation..etc..
Besides there are other factors, first of all the paper, which affect the fading.
So I can not judge a certain ink as good better or worse in general.
But you may take a...
After installing and having a look around, I am impressed!
Seems to be a really professional GUI for argyll.
I will report after some practical use and trials.
Thank you for joining and sharing the link...
..but no - the link I had to find myself..what is a pro for you..
This confirms previous findings about longevity of dye ink: there are some stable dyes available, but they can be counted on the fingers of one hand.. for canon there seem to be only one...
@The Hat, let me thank you too for testing dye on different papers.
The glossy photo paper is best by far, and I'm surprised that the matte photo paper seems to be almost as bad as plain copy paper.
What paper brand was glossy and matte? And the ink?
Lamination seems to improve fading more...
The color, and also color casts, of an inkjet print is always the result of both ink AND paper.
For example black ink on most plain papers tends to print out on the greenish side, therefor most black inks are on the magenta side...
And a certain HP paper which appears in the printer menu is...
I don't doubt it ...
.. to my understanding the possible gamut of a print virtually depends ONLY on the ink and paper!
Correct me if I'm wrong - but these are the "color media", the printer has to use them and make the best, not the most colorful but the most true colored, prints out of it...
Yes it's fluorescent type, brand "exo terra", like this
Maybe my second bulb has smaller range of UV-B. But these tests don't claim to be scientific, just like other real life tests behind a window or on the balcony.
But I really think it's due to the ink types of this latest test, which makes...
Since easter I run a sort of crossover test, with six different inks from dye to pigment:
Printed with canon pixma's (chromalife+, BCI-1411, canon "GI" bottled),
epson r285 (fuji DL dye), r800 (IS compatible pigment) and 3880 (ultrachrome K3 OEM).
All on the same paper (aldi/netbit glossy...
Hi Peter, I'm curious to see your results. As you probably know I have tried the canon "OEM CISS" bottled ink already and to sum it up, this wasn't much better (if at all) than any of the known decent 3rd party inks. The one and only outstanding dye ink for canon (in my test) was canon OEM...
As already been said, there is the ink and the paper which is limiting the gamut.
And what you are looking at is a kind of mathematical map generated by a measuring device...not a photograph..
BTW I wonder how good is our own "gear" - our eyesight?!
It reminds me of art history and Claude...
What I try to say is, that there is no "or" here, but only an "and", because you always use both "color casts", of ink and paper, together.
For example the bluish sudhaus may print out reddish on another paper.
But I admit that ink colors may vary more than "paper colors" (which you don't see...
10% isn't much - but i would avoid to dilute inkjet ink, in particular for canon bubble jets, simply with water!
Because the ink base is NOT just water, and changing the composition may harm the printhead, sooner or later.
And remember that color and color cast is a result of ink AND paper...
I'm curious to hear your findings, especially because you can test two things:
- does canon ink for thermal heads also work in cold piezo heads? As we know that it don't work the other way around...sadly..
- how does the prints perform on your balcony? Under my UV bulb the fading was better...
In Germany there are recently indications of blocked out refillable carts too:

This is in fact confirmed by your test. Pigment ink is a class of its own in this regard, and your 3rd party ink seems to do a good job.
Too bad that you haven't add one or two more brands, to show if this applies to 3rd party pigment in general... and a dye print from OEM, to see how canon...
Dear Hat, it seems you got me totally wrong, my post was meant as a "plus" for your upcoming test, and I'm curious to see results.
I just wanted to keep in mind how big the differences of light really are.
This is NOT an argument against any UV test with various inks and papers exposed side by...
That seems to be a test of patience too..
I posted this already, but one point comes into play here which every photographer should know from calculating exposure values: light levels can differ VERY much...

Normally at the end (bottom?) of the page the printhead passes one or more times while the sheet doesn't move anymore. It looks like one or more of these last passes are missing.
Is the nozzle check 100% correct, no missing nozzle? Have you tried printing unidirctional (no hook on fast or...
