Trigger 37, Only a minor detail in this discussion, but - No, we know that the sponges have a distinct function in controlling the ink as fed to the printhead. The capillary action of the sponge material pulls up on the ink, and this is what produces the negative pressure that the printhead...
Websnail, Thank you for this fine summary of the CIS lessons you have learned.
And if you do use a constant pressure reservoir system, be sure you understand the effective ink level and keep that level at or slightly below the elevation of the bottom of the printhead.
You may be able to...
Hi Lin,
One full Canon CLI-8 cart = 0.95 ounce
One empty Canon CLI-8 cart = 0.51 ounce
One full Canon PGI-5BK cart = 1.60 ounce
One empty Canon PGI-5BK cart = 0.72 ounce
One full set of Canon CLI-8 CMYK + PGI-5BK = 5.4 ounce
Don't forget that the packing and the box may increase the weight to...
Stratman and Grandad35,
The ink company Image Specialists, Inc., located at www.image-specialists.com gives the following information on BCI-6 and CLI-8 dye-base ink equivalents which they supply. Note that both cyan and yellow which they supply are the same ink product for BCI-6 and CLI-8...
I have a bias against All-In-Ones, but I may be in the minority, since I see many of them for sale at moderate prices.
The complexity makes opening up for repair much more difficult.
I prefer a separate scanner and printer. Since the scanner I prefer is Epson, and the printer I prefer is...
If we could take a vote, you would see many here vote for Canon. I never had much luck with Lexmark. Canon does want to get rich off very high ink prices, but you can refill or use CISS and solve the ink cost problem.
Canon printers produce great photos, print high quality text, and operate...
The "fat black", which is your pigment black cartridge is used for text.
If you add text to a photo, it is still a photo and the printer doesn't know that the added text is anything but part of the photo.
Try creating a text file in Word and put in a bunch of text in bold print and then insert...
Look at the pictures quite carefully. The light pipe that was under the black thing at the top has been cut away. The upper part of the locking tab has been cut away, but the actual lock is still there. It may be a little harder to unlock the cart, but it still has the working part of the lock.
The effect that you are seeing is sometimes referred to as "bronzing" and it shows up when some of the ink does not soak into the glossy coating material on a glossy photo paper. Your choice of printer controls may be just laying down a bit too much black ink in the very dark areas.
I don't...
You might try the test described in this post. Make sure you do the test on plain paper and let the ink dry completely. Your nozzle check does part with the pigment ink and part with the dye black ink. Make sure you know which is which and see which one runs...
Perhaps you should be applauded for your bravery. You better stick with Canon printers if you are making dye inks.
If you are wishing to save lots of money compared to the prices of OEM ink, I think that you should know that a high quality and consistent refill ink may only cost you 5 cents per...
You state that the magenta started to change color. To what color? Can you describe it? It would really be better for you to do that scan. Do that or take a photo of what prints.
According to Canon, the BCI-3 cartridges use Canon ink.
According to Canon, the BCI-6 cartridges use Canon ChromaPLUS ink.
According to Canon, the CLI-8 cartridges use Canon ChromaLIFE ink.
Each of these are different formulations and some of the colors have differences in color values.
The...
I haven't tried the reset chip cartridges but I'm sure that when you have used up the ink, the chip acts just like one on a new Canon cartridge. It will say it is empty and if you refill and continue printing it will shut off the ink monitor and do the other standard things. After all, it is...
Welcome Trapper,
Scanning describes the action of converting a page of text or graphics into a file of the page that is scanned. The file is created, but no printing action takes place.
Copying is sometimes the combined action of scanning and printing out a page of text or graphics. A file...
I was able to download the instructions. There is some very long wait while it seems nothing is happening. I decided to wait it out and it finally came up with the instructions.
It seems that they did not include cartridge insertion and other beginning things in the operating instructions...
Janglymark,
You can almost always get instructions downloads from Canon. Here is a link directly to the Canon page where the iP1800 instructions are listed.

Common household bleach will get rid of the ink stains on your hands and the counter top too. Use it full strength applied with a piece of towel paper, but only leave on just long enough to remove the ink, then wash well with lots of water. Dry, and maybe use a skin lotion.
If you splash the...
Lin,
I can't advise you on your idea of temporarily using the Epson pigment ink, but you mentioned getting spongeless carts for the try. This is not a good idea. The Canon printhead depends on the effect of negative pressure created by the sponge in the Canon sponged cartridge. If you try to...
