The reason why Epson does not state two maximum weights for this printers is likely due to it being generally used for documents printed on plain paper, and not for photos.
So I will just assume that the maximum weight Epson states (255 g/m²) is for plain paper.

I have the idea that inkjet printer paper commonly has two categories:
1- plain paper
2- photo paper
and that Canon, for example, states two maximum paper weights, each for the categories above. An example is:
Plain Paper: 64 g/m2 - 105 g/m2, or supported genuine Canon papers

2- That's arguable. There are warranty voiding precautions for printing on envelopes, stated in manuals of printers from even OKI, which are LED and not laser, and are made to print more reliably on envelopes due to their paper path...
Thanks. Another way that is probably an alternative to this is to print in white toner on transparent adhesive labels.
However, I am looking for inkjet printers, because, if possible, I want print directly on envelopes, which in many cases is not possible with a toner printer.

But to compare ink from the previously mentioned printers with a laser like the xerox c9000, $ 0.82 does not seem so way off. I haven't tried their quality to see how they compare.
Alternatively, I just found out that some presses can go up to 400 gsm, but do not know if it is economical to run...

Is it common practice to use this category of printers for this purpose? I am asking because the print cost for 8x10 inch prints for the Pro 9500 is $0.82. Of course the ink cost will vary widely for cards because some are not full coverage.
