WicReset now supports Canon G models

I saw on druckerchannel.de Canon forum that WicReset now can reset the absorber counters on Canon G model printers. See the post by Ede-Lingen.

I didn't believe this as WicReset is known as an Epson reset program, but see the WicReset website.

The WicReset only works with Canon G model printers if the printer is able to enter service mode. If the service mode has been locked due to the use of an old service tool, then WicReset cannot reset the printer. See this for more info.

It looks like the WicReset can replace the Canon service tool V5103 at least for the G model printers. I wonder if support for more Canon printer models will be added?

Maybe we should give the advice to try and enter Service Mode with no Service Tool active first, and least they wouldn’t lock their printers up unknowingly, or would the printer still lock up because no activity had taken place...

Canon Inc. have got very crafty..

I don't know if only entering and leaving service mode also causes lock of service mode, or it takes a wrong version service tool to lock service mode.

This post suggests that you might use a too old service tool for the reset of the absorber counter just once and accept that service mode is locked after the return to user mode. But that was for an iP7250. Newer printers might behave differently.

resettting the waste ink counter is one necessary action but replacing the waste ink absorber is necessary as well. I haven't found much about that for the G series printers so far, just a link here

I tested the G series inks a while ago for fading and don't have such a G series model in operation anymore, I leave it for other users to go from here, and there is as well a note
on another Youtube clip for a V5103 Canon Service Tool to reset the G, TS and other series printers which appears to be the most up to date version at this time.

It seems absorbers for the G models are available in the Far East. Here is a Malaysian (?) website. According to Google the currency RM is Malaysian Ringit and 43 RM equals approximately 10.37 USD or 9.02 EUR.

I wonder if absorbers for other new printers can be found?

There’s really no need to buy new absorbers for any machine, they are easily clean out, all be it very sloppy and murky, never the less it can be done.

I changed the absorber pads in a Canon i865 some time ago, I placed them in a bucket of warm water with plenty of Fairy washing up liquid and left them to stand for 24 hours, then put them under running water to get them near white again.

The only problem I had was when they dried they shrink, and I had to moisten them to get them to fit properly, a pair of latex gloves are essential..

It is a strangely incomplete list of supported Canon printers. The MG5100 and MG5200 series printers are of the PGI-x25/CLI-x26 cartridge generation and other printers of this generation are missing from the list. The MG5500 and MG5600 series printers are of the PGI-x50/CLI-x51 cartridge generation and other printers of this generation are missing from the list. MG5700 series belong to the PGI-x70/CLI-x71 cartridge generation and other printers of this generation are missing. There are more printers of the Maxify series than the MB2000 series models and these are also missing from the list.

Download of the WicReset program is free, so I downloaded it from Octoinkjet UK to test it and get some info.

I have an MG5450S that I have managed resetting using Canon Service tool v.4720. But even if it is of the PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridge generation it was not supported by the WicReset tool. I also have an MG5150 which is one of the supported printers. Here is a screen shoot, this is how far i can get without buying a key. I didn't buy a key, this printer family works well with Canon service tools v.3200 and v.3400.

I thought WicReset had somehow incorporated a Canon service tool, but likely not as I think it should then have supported all printer models that the service tool supports.

I think it would be interesting to follow development of newer versions of the WicReset and I hope somebody will buy a Canon Service Tool v.5103 and report the results. If I find a cheap printer of the PGI-570/CLI-571 cartridge generation that is not totally dead, I will buy the v.5103 service tool and test it.

I'm already running a newer version of WicReset - 5.0.40 of Mar 31/2018 but the list of supported Canon printers remains the same.
