OK it's autumn for you, but can you give us a little more of an explanation of why this lake exists, it looks more permanent than just flooding?

The Murray as a wild river was prone to drying up into a series of water holes. Farming came to the area as the flood plains were very fertile. Farmers need year round water so wiers were built.
The wier at Mulwala was built in front of a very flat plain...long and narrow. It was not seen as important to clear the trees as they would die anyway........the big ol river gum is a hardy water resistant timber and the bigger ones just wont fall over.

The area has become an important feeding area for the
Murray Cod...was once a saltwater cod long,long ago. The lake and its feeders are exceptional for all the natural creatures and their proliferation......has led this area to become the cod fishing mecca.
