HI,

I had the opportunity to buy a 14 month old Pro 1000 for an attractive price. The inks are low, on average after weighting about 15ml per ink cartridge. As I will only print once a week and low volume, a new ink set with 960ml will last several years, depending on the ink spilled in the maintenance cartridge. So the OEM inks will cost me 500€ and so I will use 3rd party inks.
As I live in Germany the Signature inks from Precision Colors are sadly no option, so is there any advice on inks here in Europe, my search found Pigmera C1 from Farbenwerk and two from ARICI.

I'm used to set up my own icc profiles with color munki and argyll. But will the new ink mixed up with the OEM ink in the tubes and printhead, or is it a more immediate change?
Is the internal calibration of the Pro 1000 an option for that?

Thanks in advance

Ralph

I have no experience with Farbenwerk, but I compared their profiles for the PRO-10 (I own) and the gamut was on average comparable with OEM and Precision Colors. This is of coarse no indication for the (lack off) gloss differences, ink flow and clogging.
They send a free evaluation print.

The only thing I know about the PRO-1000 (as you should have known too before asking this question here ;) ) is that it takes a long time before the new ink arrives in the printhead. You print a long time with a mix of both and can't judge the result (or make/use a custom profile).

With small carts on the printhead the changes are immediately visible (and I discarded 3th party inks at once in the past).

Thanks in advance to post your experiences.

I've had mixed results with Arici inks. Their black pigment for Canon Pixmas was cheap and troublefree. I printed many thousands of text pages with it. No complains. Arici's dye inks for the same Canon models was OK concerning color and no clogs but quite bad regarding longevity, when the prints were exposed to air and ambient light.
On the other part, I tried their pigment ink for Canon Maxify and it was a nightmare with constant clogs, in spite of being more expensive than other third party inks, like Octopus or Inktec.
No experience with Pigmera products.

Other European sources ? For more than three years I've been purchasing pigment inks for my Canon Pro10s at Octoinkjet in the UK. His owner is also a member of this forum (@websnail). Excepting a punctual problem with magenta, the other inks performed well. Octoinkjet sells also inks for the Pro-1000 at very reasonable prices. I expect that if his products for Pro10 can be recommended, it will be the same for the Pro-1000.

Same experience, although for optimal results you could replace some colors with OEM (in case PBK and CO on glossy papers).
Colors are not 100% the same, as apparently with Farbenwerk, but custom profiles are available for current paper types.
Brexit seems to be taken care of, you can order without VAT.
Much more affordable after shipping than the (IMO excellent) Precision Colors inks.

I concur with @palombian regarding PBk and CO. Third party photo black pigment inks usual have poor adherence to glossy or semiglossy surfaces.
