Hi,

I recently bought refilled HP300XL inkjet cartridges. They work but I doubt they have the advertised amount of ink in them. I weighted them and they are only approx. 10g heavier than supposedly empty cartridges of the same type that I already had.

The problem is, I'm actually not sure if the "empty" cartridges that I used as a reference are really empty or just dried/damaged/not working because of some other reason.

Can you guys tell me what is the weight of a new or empty (preferably new) HP300 or HP300XL cartridge (color and black types)?

The seller advertised that he refills the cartridges with 20 (black)/24 (color) ml of ink, but it seems they have only around 10ml in them.

Thanks for any info!

It is difficult to find the capacities in ml or gram for HP300(XL) cartridges. HP doesn't state them, but instead states a number of pages printed using some standard document.

I found some capacities from an ink vendor's site. I think these figures are fairly accurate. Here they are for the HP300 black, the HP300XL black, the HP300 tri-colour, and the HP300XL tri-colour.

The capacities are nominal, meaning the amount of ink filled into the cartridges at the production. You cannot drain the cartridges completely, so maybe around 1 ml or gram will be left in the used cartridges. So I think your findings of around 10 ml usable capacity for the XL cartridges match the stated figures perfectly.

When refilling, you might be able to fill a few ml extra in the XL cartridges without the cartridges overflowing or leaking, but I don't believe that almost twice the nominal amount of ink can be filled into one of these cartridges without ill effect.
