I've done water soaks...alcohol soaks with just a bit of solution in a saucer to dissolve crusty ink on my printheads.

Your thoughts on deeper immersion in either solution for more complete cleaning of a printhead...say 1/4" depth plus pouring solution into the entry screens for the ink.

The solution thats recommended on here is window cleaner. Use a little or a lot, rub, wipe, pour or immerse the whole print head just one thing, leave it to dry a couple of day before you put it back in your printer.. :)

When all else fails, I run warm tap water onto the print head from both sides. In other words, I run a small stream onto each of the screens covering the inlet ports on the top side for awhile and then for awhile I run a small stream onto the nozzles, watching for colored water to come out the other side. I do this for a very long time because I cannot test it for two days while the print head dries in a warm spot.

I have never tried window cleaner, but I had success with cheap deionized water, heated to 40C (you must not feel any discomfort when dipping your finger). I partially immerse the printhead until the water gets cold. I repeat with new heated water, until the water stays clear. If after such cleaning (and drying) the nozzle check is still not perfect, I repeat the process but before the last bath, I blow a bit of canned air into the inlet ports.

I have tried using warm water (about 50 degree Celsius) in an ultrasonic cleaner. It really works.
