Just found this forum while investigating the whole ink filling/replacement cartridge aspect of reducing printing costs.

Looks like I was just in time as I had already placed an Amazon order for this printer - I've managed to cancel it until I find out more.

My plan was to get a MG7150, buy an XL set of OEM cartridges and refill (and reset chips - although this aspect is new to me) to my hearts content. So, it seems from, for example, this thread - http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/refilling-cli-551-pgi-550.8626/ - that the new PGI-550/CLI-551 cartridges are particularly troublesome when it comes to refilling and that replacement cartridges might work if you can find the right ones. Prior to refilling I was thinking of using Cartridgesave dot co dot uk replacements which are 'guaranteed' to work, although this might be just marketing speak and now I'm not so sure.

I had wanted a Canon all-in-one as they quote large gsm handling for (all?) their printers, although I can now see that without a rear feed tray - and I couldn't find a decent canon (for my budget) with one - it might be difficult to get a 300gsm around the rollers.

So, I'm a little disheartened and struggling to find a suitable all-in-one, refillable alternative for the MG7150, that will take card stock. I may have to up my spend or change brands.

This post is more of a vent than a call for help - but if any printers come to mind it would be good to hear.

Cheers

Simon

Hi Simon
Your choice of AIO printer is a very good one but it won’t suite your needs in many ways, like if you wish to use heavy cart stock, refill and reset your OEM cartridges and use 3rd party inks in them.

That’s three strikes against using the MG7150 printer, there’s no resetter and there won’t be one either, you can however refill the OEM XL cartridges but you won’t have any ink monitoring available to you, the 300 gm card isn’t going to go through the printer either, but wait there is good quality inks available for the printer but not where you were thinking of getting it from.

These cartridges will work in that printer but however you don’t know the quality or origin of theses inks and how good a colour match they will be to the OEM inks, their cartridges probably only come with one time chips and can’t be refilled safely.

I will reframe from suggesting an alternative printer for you to buy all dough my needs are similar to yours, I think the gap is too big to bridge as there are so many good printer to choose from ranging in prices that may not suite you.
I currently only use Canon printers so can supply you with a list of some of these printers, Epson do just as good a printer as Canon do (Maybe Better) but I wouldn’t really know where to start with them sorry.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I am very keen to only refill/reset OEM cartridges so will avoid the newer 550/551 Canon models. Unless I've missed something I don't think Canon do an inkjet AIO that will handle thick card - regardless of price. I'm looking at Epson and HP (although wanted to avoid the latter - nothing but troubles with a now dead Photosmart), no doubt I'll be browsing those forums once I've decided on a model.

Thanks again

Cheers
