unopened MP830 issue - white piece that holds the belt on the left side is missing or has come loose

just opened up an unopened MP830(9 yrs old), looked inside and found the main belt hanging loose.

looks like the white piece that holds the belt on the left side is missing or has come loose

so frustrating.

The missing/broken part is a belt tensioning roller or as Canon names it QL2-0938-000 IDLER PULLEY ASS’Y. This roller is identical with the roller in iP4200 and iP5200.

I have a defunct iP4200 that I use as a donor for mechanical parts, so I could put the roller and tensioning spring into an envelope and mail it to you. You can have the parts for free if you report the result of the repair attempt on the forum. Remember to look for and remove the broken (?) parts inside the printer, or they might ruin the printer. You can use the conversation system to send me your postal address.

i found my surgical gloves from last week and took it apart

good call, i found both the spring and roller. the plastic part that hold the spring broke off, see pic
