My Canon text (black pigment ink) printing progressively got worse until finally it quit altogether. I tried, and repeated, numerous times all of the print head unclogging methods suggested by forum members without success.
One post that I had dismissed as being too radical suggested purging a black pigment ink cartridge of as much ink as possible and filling it with windex or a glass cleaner with ammonia and letting it sit in the print head for a few days. I next ran several deep cleaning cycles and then tried printing text and surprisingly it printed a faded document. I then replaced the "cleaning" cartridge with a full black ink cartridge and the printer has been working since.
Thought I would pass this along for those about ready to junk their printer, as I was.
It is worth a try when all else fails - whether the windex with ammonia causes any long term injury to the print head or printer is unclear, but unlikely.
