been using 2 MP830s for 5+ years now, have 60,000 pages printed and 450 refills on them. problem is they just keep going and going and going....

i stocked up on some backup printers and am now trying to decide which ones to keep and which ones to possibly sell.

- 1 MP830 (new) (keep)

- 1 IP4500 (new)
- 2 MX700s (canon-refurbished)

- 2 MX860s (new)
- 2 MX860s (canon-refurbished)
- 4 MP980s (canon-refurbished)
- 4 MX870s (canon-refurbished)

any thoughts on which printers(or all) to keep ? some use PGI5/CLI8 carts, others use PG220/CLI221 carts.

also thoughts on best way to sell ? whole, part out, ebay, craigslist, other ?

J

I would at least keep the PGI-5/CLI-8 printers. These printers are higher build quality than later models, and the cartridges are easily refillable with a decent capacity. I would not rush to sell the PGI-220/CLI-221 printers, these will be much sought after in the future and the prices will go up.

And since you live in the USA, a used printer, working or not, can be traded in for $50 when you buy selected new printers at places like OfficeMax and Staples. Let your friends know even if you're not in the market for a new printer.

On the subject of selling, packing and the cost of shipping make it difficult to sell on eBay unless you have a printer that is worth over a hundred dollars, I would say. Craigslist is a good way to buy/sell a used printer because the buyer can see it working. You might also consider selling just a working print head on eBay because it will be much less hassle to ship and then the printer can still be traded in for a new printer. Just make sure you clean all the ink out of any print head before shipping.
