I'm trying to enable disc printing on my MG5220, and it is proving to get the best of me. I am certain I have managed to get into service mode by using the procedure listed in the service manual, but when I start up service tools v3400 and v3200 all of the options are grayed out. Anyone have any guidance for me?

Hello,

is it USB connection? CST works only via USB cable.
Is it really in SMode, with black LCD (but back-lighted), making some mechanical sounds when starting up?

Ł.

Hi @AJPrint and welcome.

You would want to be very careful using the Service Mode on your printer.

If you keep on entering Service Mode without preforming any changes to it, you’ll get locked out of it altogether, so make sure you’re connected by USB cable before your next attempt, good luck..

If you are not using USB connection for your printer you will have to install your printer again with USB connection. The easiest way to do this is plug and play installation: Turn on the printer and connect it to the computer with an USB cable. Windows update then finds the driver and installs the printer. This works with Windows versions newer than XP. After the install verify that it is OK for instance by doing a nozzle check.

Now you can turn off your printer and turn it on again in service mode by following the instructions in the service manual. These instructions are not quite clear, so I have edited them slightly to make them more clear:

i. With the machine power turned off, while pressing the Stop button, press and hold the ON button. (DO NOT release the buttons.)
ii. When the Power LED lights in green, while holding the ON button, release the Stop button. (DO NOT release the ON button.)
iii. While holding the ON button, press and release the Stop button 5 times, and then release the ON button. (Each time the Stop button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green.)
iv. When the Power LED lights in green, the machine is ready for the service mode operation (nothing is displayed on the LCD).

Service tools versions 3.200 and 3.400 should work with your printer and these service tools work with all Windows versions from XP and on and both 32 and 64 bits. But the service tools only work with Windows, MacOS and Linux cannot be used.

Thanks everyone for your timely responses. I connected to a different laptop via USB and it worked like a charm! I'm just going to chalk it up to my laptops USB ports being faulty, as phones don't charge when I plug them in.
