Refilling HP 564s

I know there are at least 3 different ways to refill these cartridges but my question is about the chips on these cartridges. Do they need to be replaced or reset like the chips on the HP 02 or the HP 88 cartridges? If anybody knows I'd greatly appreciate the information. What is the date at the bottom of the cartridge for?
