To my disbelief all my yellows were way off, upon further investigation somehow the black ink has been sucked up into the yellow BCI cartridge. There were some other posts to do with poor quality dye black ink being used in the refillable cartridge being the culprit - but my ink bottles clearly says BCI-3ebk pigment black. Anyone else had a similar experience ? I cleaned it all up - refilled the carts - and lo and behold next morning - yes there is some black contaminating the yellow spongeless pad. Maybe it is time to throw the i560 into the bin and move on (it does a fine job though!).

cheers and thanks for any ideas.

It looks like your refillable cartridge is leaking ink from underneath the ink outlet: are your sure the cartridge is completely sealed off ? Why not refilling the original BCI-3eBk cartridge: these are much better built than those aftermarket cartridges. The worst are the no-sponge cartridges: just crap. I recommend the german Durchstich-methode (Ritchman method): it works great and no mess like the traditional method of refilling by drilling a hole above the ink compartment.

Today I refilled my BCI-6 PM cartridge in a month time and it still works great: I'm still piercing the needle through the same path I made earlier and no ink whatever is leaking through that hole and the ink is still feeding very well.

Did you already install a new BCI-3Bek cartridge (or even a cheap aftermarkt cart) and see if the ink contamination is still occuring or not ? If not than your refillable cartridge is most probably leaking ink very slowly.

Thanks for all the excellent help. I think maybe these refillable carts leak and hence are probably a heap of cr_p in terms of design. Out of frustration I removed the black cart and refilled the other 3 colours. Next morning - yellow was empty ! suspect poor seals. thanks
