Hi folks,

a friend of mine bought the 6500A and once he saw the price of the Black cart he came to me and asked for advise :gig
I still have my Canon i865, after 7 years of refills it works better than ever :thumbsup

I had a look around and came to the conclusion that the 920 carts can be drilled on top, fill with ink and close the holes with rubber caps? Is this the right procedure or you suggest something else?
I read some are using the German method, but is not as practical as the one I just mentioned, unless you think I might incur in some problems the way I said.

Regarding the inks, who are the two best suppliers around?

I am in Canada but can buy in the US too as I go there regularly.

Thank you for your help and let's try to make another user a happy $$$ printer.

Cheers
Alex

1. You must seal the top COMPLETELY. NO LEAKS!
2. To prepare for filling, seal the outlet port.
3. Fill slowly 1/4 full. Then seal the serpentine vent with thumb or tape and fill the ink chamber.
4. Then seal the ink chamber COMPLETELY. Open the other ports before installing.

Make sure the cartridge is not dripping at all when you install it.

The cartridges are 920, or 920xl? There are differences in construction, therefor different ways of refilling.

Hi,

thanks for the tips.

Let me see if I have well understood:

1) Seal the outlet with the orange cap
2) I have to drill a hole on top to fill in the 3/4 right? This hole will be sealed with a rubber cap ( I have specific ones that I use for my Canon carts).
3) Fill 1/4 through the vent and then seal it.
4) Fill the 3/4 through the hole I did on top and seal it
5) Open the vent and remove the outlet cap and install

Please, confirm if this is the recommended procedure.

Also, any suggestions where to buy the ink?

Thank you!
Alex

This evening I will check, but I am pretty sure they are the 920.

Thanks

The hp920 doesn't use the ink chamber, only the sponge chamber. To use the TopFill or the Durchstich method you will have to get the hp920XL cartridge.
You should check out a discussion here: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=40350#p40350 (199 through 203) and follow the links in the posts. It's about HP364 cartridge, but the construction is similar.

I attach a picture I took yesterday evening, quality is bad due to lack of light with a basic cell phone, but it is enough to see the 920 carts.

Sorry, Tudor is right. WIth the 920 you fill ONLY the sponge chamber, and it does not hold as much ink. If you want to fill the 920, you can make an adapter like this:
http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6750
or this: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=48731#p48731 , or you can buy a kit from InkTec, which comes with this:
http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=46148#p46148 . If you fill the 920 cartridge, you should buy a 100-g scale and weigh the cartridge to find out how much ink to add. This works best if you weigh the cartridge when it's new, but if you didn't do that, you can muddle through until you find the right weight.

But to fill the 920XL, one method you can use is to fill through a hole you make in the top, as you described. But I think you have misunderstood one instruction. You wrote, "Fill 1/4 through the vent and then seal it." NO! There are three holes: the outlet, the hole you made, and the vent. With this method you only fill through the hole you made. You do NOT fill through the vent, and if you do get ink there somehow, you must clean it out.

Hi,

so basically I can use the method I described in my post #1 which I will make more detailed here below:

1) Put the orange plastic cap on the outlet.
2) Drill a hole on the top of the cart, under the label there should be a little indentation
3) Fill with 6cc the black and 3cc the other colors
4) Close the hole with a rubber cap.

This way will allow me to have the exact same procedure I use for my Canon, I fill them without removing them from the printer, 15min. and I am done :)

Now, if this is the right procedure, can I start refilling by the time the first cart becomes empty?
I mean, is there a problem to have different inks? The carts won't empty all together, so I guess I have no choice, right?

Also, would you please provide me a couple on good ink suppliers?

Thank you!

Well, there's Mikling in Vancouver. His company is Precision Colors, and they sell Image Specialists ink. Then I think someone that sells OCP ink.
