Real black dye ink, that's what i'am looking for to refill my Canon Pro9000 MK2. I trye more then 10 refill (bulk) inks, but all of them are dark purple, dark reddish or dark green. So i always get a color-cast when printing in the black&white modus; that is printing with only the black CLI8Bk cartridge. Have anyone a tip for an adress that delivers real black dye ink?

When your printing colour or black and white on the eight colour 9000 it is vital to have all the same quality inks,
whatever brand you use they must be from only one source. (Not Mixed)

When you print Black and White photos your printer will still use the colours to achieve the desired results,
its a misnomer to think it only uses the single black cartridge for greyscale.

So changing the black ink for another will not help you one little bit, so youll need to profile you prints first,
to get that perfect print youre searching for..:)

Thank you for your comment. Indeed most printers use all colors for greyscale printing. But this printer has a special mode for B&W printing: printing with the black cartridge only ! (so very slow: one A3 print takes about half an hour...). This is the reason i buy the Pro9000. So it is very important that the black cartridge has real 'black' ink without color cast, but i can't find such jet-black dye ink. (Pigment ink is easy to get in real black, but not usable in that printer).

All of them! LOL
Pretty much ALL Dye based Black ink is really a very dark purple. I have often wondered about that myself.

Can you describe how to set up this special B/W mode on the 9000 MK2 as I have the same printer and it sounds interesting?

Red you can either click on the "Greyscale" option in the printer dialogue box or better still is tp use the Canon Photo Print Pro plug in that comes on your install disc. It installs this plug in in DPP & Photoshop. This program gives lots of options for fine tuning the B&W & even colour prints.
One thing not to forget about colour casts when using the Black ink only is that different papers can influence if the B&W print is warm, cold, green or magenta looking. Normally the cheaper papers seem to have these casts more than the known brands.

One thing to watch out for is that in my tests dye black has always been the fastest to fade, by far. Unfortunately. I haven't tried ink for that printer, however.

I have used the greyscale option and have the ps plugin installed. I thought I had missed some special mode on the prnter.

The B/W on the 9000 mk2 is pretty good but does take a while to tweak to your liking.

On second thought, are you sure it uses only black ink? It's common for printers to save the black ink for the really dark areas, but to use a lot of color in the light gray areas, I believe even in black and white mode. Look at the dots with a magnifying glass.

The special greyscale-modus of the Pro9000 MKII) is explained in the posts above. Canon achieves this by simulating raster-printing with only the black cartridge. The problem is, that only Canons ink is black and gives no colour casts (but the cartridge is empty after five a3+ prints). All other inks and cartridges I try are dark purple or dark reddish. Simple test: put a few drops in a glass of water and you can see a colour cast (in daylight or indescant light!). Resulting in greyscale with a strong reddish/purple colour-cast, especially visible in the middle-greys (a little bit depending on the chosen paper). So my main question is: where can I find real black dye refill-ink or compatible cartridges???
