Quick Question About IP4700...Open Your Mind...

Loves you guys/ladies for all the info on this website and keep it up. Lots of info.

I did a quick search and didnt find anything but I am sorry if this has been addressed prev.

I was wondering does anyone know if it is worth the time to clean out the waste pad on my printer. If so is it easy to do. If anyone out there knows please post the forum or video on how this can be done on my printer. Its stated its 50% full. So I want to clean it out but I have no idea where it is and plus should I just get a new printer when the time comes. Any information would be GREAT. Thanks!

There is no reason to clean it out until it gets full and even then, many people just reset the counter and continue on until it registers full again. I have cleaned a set of waste ink pads and believe me, it's no fun and you really can't get them clean and back to their original condition because they tend to shrink in thickness as you try to dry them. Besides, a new set can be purchased from Canon for $7 or other sources for $15 for my printers. Here is a link to show you what's involved for an MP780.

Thanks for the reply. That is crazy confusing to clean these pads. Maybe ghweesjr I can send you my printer in due time to do repairs to my waste ink pads. We will just wait and see till the tme comes on what to do but you did say ppl always reset the counter so that might be the best thing to do for me.

How old is your ip4700? Why your waste ink tank is half full already? With normal use it would take forever to fill it up with waste ink. I have seen printers that are 8 years old yet the waste ink tank is not close to be full still. The printer was used on a regular basis. Your IP4700 should pretty young still. Have you done a lot of cleaning cycles by yourself? If the answer is yes you should ask yourself why. Something is not done right.

I do tons of these so maybe that is why its fulling up so fast. I do about 25-35 prints a day. I guess I should slow down.

You can control the amount of overspray, at least on my printers. If you reduce it until it starts to show a border, and then back off one setting, it will at least minimize the waste ink. It's called extension--move the slider as far left as you can and still get no border.
