Hey all, Long time lurker( probably about 2 years now!), first time poster here.

I use ink power compatibles nowadays ( re branded hobicolour ink :) ) From here in aussie

BUT i was recently cleaning up and found some thINK ink carts in my room that I used to use before heeding the advice on here and getting hobicolours!

On the back of the pack is what looks to be a use by date which reads 2008/05... Do you think it would be okay to still use this, or should I not risk it? The ink cart itself is still in the original shrink wrap with all seals and in the sealed bag.

Here is a pic showing what I mean. (note the date on the bottom right corner of the box)

I used Think carts from Choice Stationary here in the UK, before filling myself with Hobbicolors.
I never had any problems with them.

As it's only a couple of months outside its sell-by date you should find it OK. But be prepared to change it at the first sign of a clog.

My only gripe about the think carts is that they seem to not have as much ink in them as other brands, other then that they were quite god

I was under the impression that because it is sealed then there should be no air in it? Therefore nothing to allow the growth of bacteria?

Or is it more on the chemical side as to why it has a use by date?

Probably a bit of both...

Water still contains oxygen so some bacterial growth may have taken place... and chemicals will break down too so as yeah, more than likely it's going to be a combination.

Well most ink dates are used to ensure that ink does not break down until that date and the use gets the color (ink performance) he expects from it.

Otherwise you can notice color shifts.
I never saw it.

If Ice cream can last up to 3 years than what makes you believe that ink can't last up to 10 years if storage is air proof and it is stored at right temperature etc.

Yeah I think ill give it a go.

Its been in its box, In a dark cupboard so Should be okay I guess. If i run into any problems ill just change them :)

Also, why you guys are here, Ive been thinking of going back to refilling instead of compatibles. Do you think it is okay to refill the compatible carts if i flush them first, Or should i try and get some used oem carts? (for my MP600)
