it's not just about the remanufacturers, they may find a way to bypass constructional tricks, but it is as well
possible to block imports into the EU due to patent infringement, and then the importer/dealer would be sued by Canon/HP etc. That approach has been used in various cases in the past, in the EU , and the US.

It's a shame Canon, HP want to go that extra mile to stop refilling.

Here it is.

I can't imagine any reason why this couldn't be refilled.
I also think they could be refilled. Here is the drawing from the patent application, with the cartridge outline marked in red and a needle marked in green.

I think that at least two methods should work for refilling.

1. Seal the outlet and insert a sharp needle through a hole drilled above the ink out let chamber and inject ink. Ink should fill the ink outlet chamber and fill the wick material marked 66 (or 73?) and continue to fill the sponge at the top.

2. Turn the cartridge upside down and use the Freedom Refill method. As this is a vacuum refill method, the wick material marked 66 (or 73?) should be re-saturated with ink.

Does anybody know if these cartridges have been introduced yet and what type number they might be or what printers they are used in?
