I'm having problem with the yeloow ink fo rmy Canon MP640

It's not printing right. When I do a nozzle check print I get a thin strip down the middle about 0.5cm
The strip should be solid and be about 1cm

I've recently refilled it - not sure if this could be the cause

I'm assuming the fault is with the cartridge?

What should I do?
How do I fix?

Thanks

It would help if you would upload a scan of your nozzle check but if the yellow strip looks normal except for being half as high as it should be, then that implies an electrical defect in the print head and probably will require a new print head. It could also be a problem in the connector between the print head and the carriage. Sometimes removing the print head and cleaning the contacts will fix the problem.

ohhh... hmmm
i didn't realise it might be that serious!
i'd rather call canon and get them to fix as the printer is still under warranty

Yes, I'm sure Canon will send you a new print head. Just don't volunteer the information that you refill. It has nothing to do with the problem.

i called them
they said i have to post to a repair centre :(
i have to pay for posting the printer :(
i've emailed canon and have sent them a print out of the nozzle check and have suggested they just send me a new print head

a new print head will cost them 5p (or something ridiculously low price like that!)
i would save on my costs of sending
they would save on their costs on paying the repair centre
everyone would be happy! (apart from the repair centre!)

OM2 Canon may want to check the circuit board and other electrical connections. Even in warranty I believe it is normal practice for the customer to pay carriage one way. Its probably in the small print somewhere.

You might be lucky and get a NEW printer

But if you get a new printer, it probably will not be another MP640, but rather a current model, which I would not want. They don't have a repair center in London that you can take it to?

i think i'll send it in, i that case

i definitely DON'T want a newer model!

i don't know if they do have a repair centre in london
even if they did, i'd rather pay a courier 7.50 to take the printer and give to them - the time and petrol costs wouldn't be worth it!

i thought i'd update this thread

just to recap:
original post: problem with one cartrdige
advice given: need a new print head
solution: send in for repair

ok... so i sent in and got back a few days later
ALL my inks (apart from the problem one) where nearly out of ink
i've had a look - i definitely haven't been given a new print head

with the printer, they gave a sample nozzle check print - that looked ok

what did they do??
just deep clean a 100 times???

i'm kind of upset they took away all my ink :(

AND: the yellow is STILL not printing ok!!
before, the middle band would only show some colour
now, the top part also shows colour - but the bottom 20% is still missing!

it's realy unfair if i now have to bear the costs of sending in again for repair :(

what do u guys say?
