Have had this printer for a little under a year now. Was a replacement for my 10+ year old Pro 100 that eventually succumbed to a print head failure after tens of thousands of prints. A true workhorse.
Background info:
- used daily for photo prints
- have only been using Precision Colors pc65se V2 inkset with their supplied aftermarket cartridges
- around 1300 total pages printed on printhead
Everything's been going well with this printer up until the past week or so. I first noticed it when a few prints came out looking off and lacking vibrance...particularly magenta biased. So I printed out a nozzle check and it showed the yellow section as being the wrong shade of yellow. Instead of the bright yellow that it should be, it almost appeared to be a more dark orangish hue. Have attached a picture of how it looks both corrected and uncorrected. The problem would always self-correct on the ensuing print and all prints thereafter...until the printer is left sitting overnight. Then it almost comes back the next day.
So I tried running a few deep cleaning cycles. Which didn't fix the issue as it came back again the next day.
Thus I removed the print head and gave it an ammonia soak for a good 24 hours as well as flushing each individual head using a kit I purchased awhile ago. Did this until there was not a trace of ink left inside.
Reinstalled and now it appears the issue has gotten 'better' in the sense that it doesn't always occur every day. But it still does.
What's puzzling is that I have always been diligent in keeping a manual page counter so I always refill all ink cartridges at the same time and well before the ink levels are depleted to avoid print head damage.
My question is....does this seem more like a printhead issue or a print cartridge issue? I only ask because these are the Precision Colors refillable tanks and most likely not made to OEM quality spec. And I do notice (compared to my old pro 100 tanks) that there is a LOT of excess ink spillage that occurs during refill once I reseal the carts and remove them from the sealing clips. I was under the impression there should only be a few drops or a single big glob. I'm getting a literal puddle with most of the carts until the ink stop flowing out freely. And even then, I'll still observe notable ink spillage when removing the cartridges from the printer weeks between servicing. Shouldn't these be completely air tight? I'm wondering how often these aftermarket tanks should be replaced, as I'm probably at the 7th or 8th refill cycle with these.
Oh...and one last thing. One time (it never happened again) an odd thing happened where not only the yellow section was off, but the cyan section on the nozzle check was completely black. That threw me off.
Thanks for your help!
