I read this article on PCworld the other day and found interesting.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/1472...anufacturers_ink_vs_cheap_thirdparty_ink.html

What do you think?

here is an example of Printing Photos: Lexmark's Own Brand vs. Walgreens Ink

I think that they god paid to print in draft mode or something because if ink is compatible there would be no streaks visible.
Other than that a printer profile would fix the color problem, you might get smaller gamut with cheap ink, but you will get right colors.

Not surprised.

Crappy printer, per Amazon customer remarks.

Come on!

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
I soooo love the scientific work that goes into these reviews... Just another brand name leading an outlet to spill their tripe as gospel... If they'd actually found a decent ink that would have made the point somewhat differently I'll wager.

Idiots!

I'm no expert, but it looks like they need to do a simple head clean, then darken the image a bit. (See , I said I wasn't an expert) I guess this might be too much for journalists, might eat into precious after work beer time in the bar.

Personally, anyone who buys a Lexmark must be mad, simply on the cartridge price. I'd rather buy a HP.

The Black and White canon picture of the boat. Is that the difference between pigment ink and cheap dye ink?
You have to say that the Walgreens ink took a mighty beating in that article.

In the UK, my local ASDA (owned by Wal-Mart) was selling cheap Lexmark Printers. I worked out that it would be cheaper to buy a new printer at the price they were charging than to buy new cartridges. Madness.

Does walgreens sell prefilled carts? I've seen the refill machines in the Walgreen store I go to. Probaly universal inks. The banding might also be a poorly feeding refilled cart.

The banding is even in the Lexmark ink pics.

This is a crappy printer not worthy of much introspection.
