My mx860 shows yellow error light and will not power on using any button(s) (on,
ok, etc). Found printer in this status one morning - it was working fine day before. No power hits, outages. Can't find anything much helpful online - all results say if you get this condition replace power module or main board - thank you, but trial and error like that will get me to new printer money pretty fast - especially if I take it to a repair guy so I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions or insights that will help me see the best next step. I'll have to admit - I tinker with stuff all the time but I can't even see how to get this thing apart without breaking some of the plastic parts - except for the power module which comes out pretty easily. It's supposed to have 3 dc outputs - a 34 v and 2 separate 24 v. I see the 34 v and one
24 v so maybe that's the problem. I don't see anybody I can get one from though -
any tips out there ?

Does the printer show any error code or blink patters of the yellow and green control lights?

The service manual might be helpful in diagnosing and disassembling the printer. It is found here. The site is slow to load, so have patience. The server is not always online, maybe it is only online during business hours? So if the page fails to open, try again later. The serwer seems located in Botswana, time zone = GMT + 2 hours.

I don't know the specs of the power supply, but this thread might give some ideas to testing it.

Thanks very much for the reply - the only thing I get is the yellow error light - no other signs of life, no lcd, no codes - the service manual site seems to be down now, I'll try Monday - there was a comment in your linked thread that a bad print head might prevent the printer from powering up - I will try to pursue this in the mean time

If I remember, this is some kind of "low level" hardware error - eg. RAM or so.

It may be hard to get out the printhead, essentially if purge unit is capping it. APP gear movement is required to release the printhead if capped (see chapter "(4) Carriage unlocking" from any service manual for PGI-X20/CLI-X21 or PGI-X25/CLI-X26 based printer). To reach APP gear, removing top cover (and scanner unit) is required.

The server with the service manual is working now at this moment. I have tried opening the site a couple of times during the morning without luck, so it seems the site only works very sporadically.
