Hey everyone,

I've been a reader on this forum for a long time, now I've decided to post something because what I am going through haven't been discussed here before, I think.

My canon MP780 won't print a single pixel in color.
I have only been using original carts, so no filling. And one morning ALL colors decided to stop printing at all. When removing the head and dapping it against a tissue paper, it shows the colors print, so it's not clogged or at least not 'badly' clogged. when i perform the nozzle check only black comes out. I mean there is nothing else there except for black!
I performed cleaning through the printer itself and through the options on the computer, and nothing.
I've read many many posts on this great forum but nothing really describes my problem, and i was afraid to use chemicals or such without a piece of advice from someone with higher knowledge.

any suggestions?

thanks and i really appreciate the help.

From your description it sounds like either the print head failed or the logic assay board failed or both. You may try cleaning the contacts of the print head and the print head carriage that the print head sits in. Use a lint free cloth and isopropyl alcohol. Alternatively, non-flavored vodka might work. Or, you could use a soft pencil eraser.

A new print head may work, though they are hard to find for your printer and there is no guarantee that it will work. There is the possibility that a new print head may be damaged if the logic board assay failed. Reports are very rare. So, it is a risk all the way around, money withstanding.

Print heads out of China have been reported to be "refurbished" and not "new" as they are advertised. The forum has heard of failures greater than expected if you purchased one directly from Canon (which they probably no longer manufacture or sell since Canon only supports printers for five years after date of first manufacture). But, hey, it's only money!

The silver lining here is that Black still functions. If this is the Pigment Black cartridge that still functions then you could use the printer for text only and save money by refilling and you do not need a chip resetter either! If you are in North America then I suggest Precision colors for supplies: http://www.precisioncolors.com/C5A.html
