Hi there,

I have a Canon PIXMA MX870
I've purchased a continuous print ink system from inkproducts.com and it had been working great but then the cyan color stopped printing as well as it should have. I've tried cleaning and doing the print nozzle check. I've soaked the foam on the cartridge and it still doesn't work. What other steps can I do to identify/fix the problem here?

Here is the print nozzle check page:

The problems youre having are normal everyday problems associated with CISS systems
because they never quite work out the way their advertised.

If youre not using your printer everyday it tends to have these niggling problems,
that is however the nature of any CISS system.

You could have an air leak between the cartridge and the print head which is causing your loss of ink
did you remember to fit the silicone washers into the print head before installing the cartridges,
or possibly the tubing may have come loose and got dislodged on the top of the cartridge. (Check it)

This ink starvation problem your having is directly caused by the cyan cartridge and not by your print head
and cleaning wont help or fix the problem so please only run nozzle checks till you have it back working properly again.

If you check your instruction on how to remove this air from the cartridge (Repriming) that might be your best way to go,
there is several ways to do this but Im sure its covered in your instructions for that particular CISS bottle system you have.

CISS systems are notorious difficult to maintain and usually need daily attention to keep them in proper working order,
later if you get tired of babysitting your printer you should think about refilling your OEM cartridges
as a better alternative to your latest overly expensive contraption.

Come back and let us know how youre getting on.

Hi,

Thanks for the recommendation, I found a problem with the L bracket hose for Cyan. Rather than wait for them to ship me a new L bracket hose I went out and bought a new set of OEM cartridges. The nozzle check came out the same so I put it in a hot water and flushed the colors out.

I made some progress but the nozzle check is still not printing properly, any hints on what to do next?

Also what is a comparable vendor for shipping quality Ink in the US?

Thanks!

The latest nozzle check is a huge improvement on your last one but the tell tale straight lines in the cyan are even more pronounced now.

You may have run your printer to long without having enough cyan ink in the print head
which can in most cases damage (Burn-out) some of the nozzles and only a new print head with fix this.

You could remove the cyan cart and squirt some Windex on the cyan inlet (Flood the area) and leave it overnight
then pop the cyan cart back in and do a cleaning cycle followed by a nozzle check.

If there is no improvement repeat a clean cycle and another nozzle check and study carefully the two printouts
side by side to see if the straight lines are still in the same position or have moved some, if not then the print head has had it.

You can go on soaking and cleaning the print head if you think that there was any improvement
but it will never print perfectly again if the nozzles are actually burned out.

There are two places come to mind for good quality inks in the US, inkjetcarts.us and www.precisioncolors.com

TheHat - I ended up buying a new print head off ebay for about $60 and it printed out great.

After the ink is consumed, I'll start refilling them with the ink from inkproducts and move on to the precisioncolors after I'm done with them.

Thanks for your help!

Glad to hear youre back in business again, :thumbsup

but please remember to purge your cartridges before introducing the new ink from Precisioncolor,
its important not to mix these together..
