Hi there,
Wow, am I glad I found this forum! I'm really grateful to anybody taking the time to read this and help me with this problem.

I got the ink refill cartridges for my new canon mg5370 and finally its time to change them. The supplier gave us refill cartridges marked 'C-221' for the four thinner ones and C-220 for bigger black one (the original ink cartridges are 726 and 725 respectively. When I put filled them and inserted them I get the error message "Appropriate ink tank is not installed".

I'm not sure how to get around this problem. From what I've read it might be possible to use a chip resetter, I've been reading about them on the inkbank website (an Australian site that I was restricted from linking to here). However, I don't think they would work in my situation because its not that the printer thinks the printer ink is low, its a case of not recognizing the cartridge at all. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

If not this, then perhaps I could transfer the old chip to the refillable cartridge? Then it would require a chip resetter I suppose...

If anybody has advice I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Thanks

The problem your having is cartridge chip incompatibly that is all.
While the 221/220 cartridges fit and work perfectly the error message is only referring to the chips.

Youll need to swap the chips (one at a time) from your current 725/726 cartridges to the newer ones,
here is a link to a thread with instructions. http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6360

There will be a need however to buy a resetter for the 725/726 chips
if you want to be able to see how much ink that is left in each cartridge after each time you print.

You can override the out of ink on screen message for each individual cartridge by hold in the orange resume button
for 5 seconds and that will allow you to continue to print till you can get a resetter..:)

First of all some feedback: I followed the instructions and my printer is working fine with the refillable cartridges. Thank you very much!

I still haven't got a chip resetter though, and looking around the websites where I live in Korea, they don't seem to be easily available. It seems that usually the refillable cartridges they sell here don't require resetting. Not sure why the ones I got didn't work, I guess its because this model is relatively new.

Anyway, looks like I'll have to get a chip resetter online from an overseas source. I've googled it but the sites I find seem to be wholesale only. Any recommendations or hints as to reputable online sellers of chip resetters? (and apologies if this is an inappropriate question).

You need refillables with 725/726 marking on them, that's why they didn't work. You got the 220/221, which are different chips and for a different region.

Are you using OEM cartridges that you refilled yourself or the compatible prefilled cartridges you buy in the shops?

I swapped the chips from the original cartridges that came with the machine (bought in Korea).
I guess this makes a difference to the chip resetter I need to get, right?

You will have to get a resetter that is suitable for your 725/726 chips, so do a search carefully and one will turn up for you.
There are some resetters that work with the 225/525 chips and they may also reset your 725 chip but make sure before you buy.
