metal strip on I 560 canon print head

I noticed today that the metal strip that is located on the right side, under the print head lock lever was not correctly in place. Actually, when I lifted the lever to check it out, it was just loosely laying there, so I took it out. I tried to put it into place, but could not get it back in. Will this affect how the printer works? Haven't tried to print without it yet.
