Looking to upgrade my printer to something better. I have used the 6210 for several years and it has served me well other than the color cartridges. I have had a lot of success refilling the black ink from the top, but the color not so much. I am looking for another all in one that I can refill the color on with separate color cartridges. Currently I have been considering the Canon Pixma MX870 on Amazon for $140. From reading on the forums I have seen that the CLI-221 are pretty easy to refill. Although the German refill method and chip resetting is all new to me. After countless hours browsing the forums and looking at different printers online, in staples, walmart, etc. I just cant make a decision. Hopefully someone can influence me on the right one! Thanks to everyone on this site for all the great information that is posted. I never realized there was a whole forum dedicated to this until a google search. I always add the word forum to my search on google. Forums to me are the best way to get honest answers and communicate with people that have the hands on experience.

I have two Canon MX 870 printers (1 in service and 1 spare) and have been refilling using the German method. The MX 870 has been performing flawlessly and the cartridges have been easy to refill. A big advantage with these cartridges is a clear window on the tank side, which greatly simplifies refilling.

Thanks for your input Bob..
One of the ink suppliers I talk with just recommended I not get the mx870 due to not being able to use refillable cartridges, they said it would not accept a refillable cartridge if setting idle for more than two minutes, They did say I could refill them using a oem cartridge and chip resetter.
They recommended the
Artisan 835, Workforce 635 or Workforce 845

I am not one to promote the use of refillable compatibles in Canons
but that ink supplier was talking through his butt.:th
I dont like suppliers that tell porkies just to get you to purchase something that they want to sell you. :somad

The MX 870 does work with compatibles but dont use the refillable ones just stick with using OEM cartridges
for your refilling because theyre the best for continued use..

The Hat is right. With Canon printers only refill OEM cartridges.
