Hey guys.
I just started my journey of refilling my catridges.

So far, my concern is this. With the ink check disabled, how can I actually know when is the time to refill?
I heard that printing with insufficient ink will hurt the print head.
Should I keep printing until the color fades before refilling?

Welcome aboard. :)

You have some very good questions that youd like answered but first,
wouldnt it be nice if you told us something about your current cartridge and printer set-up,
like which refill method do you intend using and what inks have you decided to buy, all we know so far is that its your first time.

Come back with some more information and that will then help us give you a much better answer to all of your questions,
there is a lot more to refilling successfully than just jumping in at the deep end..

I have a similar problem with my HP 920XL cartridges. For tank-style cartridges the solution is here:

http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=62664#p62664

Essentially, weigh a completely empty (flushes and dried) cartridge on a digital scales and make note of the weight. When you use the refilled cartridge you will then be able to weigh it periodically and decide when to top up. I would guess a good time to do so would be when cartridge mass drops below 2g above empty, in which case you would refill with 2cc less of ink than a full refill.

The above link shows one of my catridge with a silicon plug which I fixed into the hole I made.
I can easily refill ink through the tiny hole (within the plug) using a syringe.
I haven't encountered any major issues so far but I hope it will stay like that. :(
Printer: MG 5470

The ink I have been using is Mipo which is from Hong Kong I think.

The reason why I decided to use it is that I haven't found anyone using the product with clogging issues.

I have thought of this too. However, removing and measuring the catridge would kinda time-consuming. :(
Also, every time after closing the front cover, the printer will begin to do some cleaning process, and it will do again right before start printing. These processes will take quite a long time.

OK thats a little better now we're cooking with gas.
I take it your using the 751 XL cartridges so we can start with them.

First off weigh all of the cartridge before using and include the orange clip and note their exact weight.

Once you have installed your cartridges you can print as normal and youre on screen ink monitor
with show your ink levels till you get low on any one of your cartridges that is the time to think about refilling.

The best way to do it is when you get the first notice of low ink (Yellow triangle)
remove and refill that cartridge to the correct weight immediately,
dont wait till its showing empty, then pop it back in and continue to print normally.

There is no resetter for these cartridges at this time so youll have to disable the ink monitoring
if you wish to refill and continue to use the same cartridges.

The best method for refilling these cartridges is much the same as the 725 opaque cartridges
so try to follow the procedure that Tudor has developed and you should be safe, linked here.

Eventfully youll get the out of ink notice, from then on youll have to check your ink levels regularly yourself
by weighting them occasionally, dont be tempted to run any cartridge dry, its just not worth it..

I sometimes take the cartridges out and weigh them, but I also watch the page count. Just keep a record of refilling so you know where you are.
