Is it possible to FORCE Canon Printers to print with 1 specific color?

Hello all...

I have some artsy projects that I would like to try that require me to print each color from either my IP9500 or IP9000 on a separate sheet. It is a little bit more than doing color separations (which I also do not know how to do with these), but that is the closest comparison I can think of.

Basically, from photoshop or aperture on a MAC, I want to print an image 1 (one) cartridge at a time. This would output either 8 or 10 sheets per image. I guess, as I write this, what I would like to do is print as if I am using an 8 or 10 color offset press, and only applying one color per pass.

Also, I would like to sacrifice an older IP8500 for a similar project using customized inks that I can get down to the correct size.

So... Is this possible with the Canon Print Drivers? With Photoshop? or any other third party software or driver?

I think it must be possible, but any sort of google search just turns up articles on ink, not the process of separation.

Any thoughts or ideas?

The printer decides which inks to use to produce any particular color so except in very particular cases, it is impossible to get the printer to use just one ink. If your goal is simply to produce an output that shows how the colors are separated, you can do this by making a set of cleaning cartridges that will put invisible "ink" on the paper along with one normal cartridge and then you repeat with a different normal cartridge in place for all 8 or 10 cartridges. You have to do several cleaning cycles between each swap to get the correct "ink" to print. This is how I determined which colors are used to print greyscale. I got my cleaning solution here. But this obviously is not something you are going to want to do on a regular basis.

Trying to print colour separations to your inkjet printer is almost impossible; you would need a postscript printer for that.
I dont know if its possible to get a RIP CD from canon to convert your printer over to postscript and if it is youll need to get a lot more memory for the printer to make it work properly.
Whichever way you go its going to get very expensive, I dont know of any photo software that converts pictures of graphics to c y m k without turning them to negative first.
