I'm trying to find a way to print my designs for embroidery from my computer on to paper using either ink jet or laser that can then be ironed on to fabric---like the embroidery patterns you buy that are heat activated.

I don't mean the special paper you can print on and then iron on to fabric. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en&q=ink transfer paper&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wf I think that will be bulky and wasteful, since much of the page will be negative space.

Thanks for your help!

My Canon MP780 has a photo paper type called T-Shirt Transfer. It may work with other printers. You can get the paper to do this from PrintOnIt.com.

EDIT: I just clicked on your link and maybe my link is the same kind of thing your link is in which case I am confused. What is it that you are looking for that is different from your link?

There are inks used in the commercial printing of designs to transfer to fabric. There is also a pen made that allows you to trace a pattern and then transfer it to fabric. http://www.sulky.com/transferpens/ I'm hoping to find some information on a source/hack/other places to ask, that will let me print designs that can be transferred to fabric.

The issue of the special transfer paper is most of it will go to waste because the designs are just line drawings. Whereas ink will be more cost effective, since none will be wasted and it can be printed on any type of paper. http://images.google.com/images?um=...ern&aq=f&aqi=g2g-m8&aql=&oq=&gs_rfai=&start=0

Thank you for taking the time to help. If anyone has suggestions about other places to ask, that would be great too.

I have and still do many tests on how far I can push a printer and what it can and cant do.
One of them I did was print direct on to embroidery fabric and it worked
But it depends on the printer and the settings used
Try it, by setting the paper setting to thick paper or heavy weight or canvas
