A few days ago I ordered several liter bottles with the latest Inktec CLI-8 compatible refill ink, which according to druckerchannel.de is one of the best refill inks and according to dpreview.com one with the best fade resistance after the original Canon ink.

I'm still testing the ink and found the gamut as good as the Hobbicolors UW-8 ink, albeit that the Inktec ink is lacking the slight magenta cast from the original Canon Chromalife 100 and the Hobbicolors UW-8 ink. Since I'm using customized ICC-profiles this problem can be removed completely. Skin tones look more natural and less reddish, but some find the Hobbicolors UW-8 ink more vivid.

On positive note about the ink composition: it has only a faint chemical smell and does not contain high levels of glycol/isopropanol as some cheap refill inks have.

For the pigmented BCI-3eBk/PGI-5Bk I purchased the KMP pigment black ink which -according to druckerchannel.de- has the best "Highlighter" smearing resistance of all pigmented black (refill + original Canon) inks. I did not have the possibility yet to test this claim.

Experiences about Inktec or other good refill inks from other forummembers are greatly appreciated !

I have used InkTec ink in my HP printers for a few years (HP cart 15, 23, 56, 57, 96, and 97). No clogging problems and colors were fine - have switched to Canon (3000, 6000, 9000, and MP830). I tested the InkTec inks for the HP printers and have posted my results earlier. Basically, fading was an issue, but I think that most aftermarket inks will have similar results. I also have fading problems with Canon OEM inks on Kirkland paper. Best results were OEM (HP and Canon) on swellable paper but still not great for long term.

I am considering a pigment printer (even with all the clogging problems) or outsourcing for archival printing.

I have vacuum refilled hundreds of Canon BCI-6 and -3e cartridges for myself and lots of friends with Inktec--never had a complaint. I have never experienced any fading which was the main reason I selected Inktec.

Although I like the pitch black pigment ink and the fact it does not smear on ordinary plain paper if the paper gets wet, I wish it had smear resistance to a highlighter. I would consider switching to another ink that was just as black and 100% pigment. I went to kmp.com and couldn't find any reference to bulk ink or even BCI cartridges and of course the druckerchannel.de website was very difficult to understand. But I suppose even if they do supply bulk ink, it won't be available in the USA. I would be interested in learning of any experiences you have with it.

Ghwellsjr, KMP can be ordered at www.tintenalarm.de and they ship to the USA as well (albeit be expensive due to custom fees/VAT etc.). Just drop an email how much the shipping/handling costs are for the USA (the VAT will NOT be charged !).

Look at this for the "Highlighter" smearing resistance for the KMP pigmented BCI-3eBk/PGI-5Bk compatible ink:

Did you tried other inks as well and how does the gamut of the other inks compared to the one from Inktec ?

Pharmacist, I cannot read the websites you referenced. Do you know for sure that KMP ink can be ordered and shipped to the USA? Can you find on their website where they will do this and what the additional charges will be?

Also, I have not tried inks other than Inktec.
