I'm interesting to give Inktec CLI-8 compatible ink a try. According to druckerchannel.de this is a high quality refill ink with one of the best fade resistance after Canon's original Canon and a superior colour gamut. However, there is no red and green ink available, only CcMmYK colours. I could use the older BCI-6 compatible Inktec ink, but would rather use the CLI-8 ink only.

Is it possible to mix magenta + yellow = red and cyan + yellow = green ink ? And how much should I use of the ink to obtain the right colour or could this give undesirable results like precipitation ? Personally I don't think it would give any precipitation, since they are all dye inks, but you never know.

I would think if you could get the shades of red and green by mixing the normal three colors, then Canon would just do it in the printer and not bother with separate red and green cartridges. The i9900 and i9950 printers use very little red and green ink and with some papers don't use them at all. See this link:

I, also, have been unable to locate bulk Inktec ink in red and green and finally refilled my Canon BCI-6 red and green cartridges with Formulabs ink but you can buy inktec ink in compatible cartridges from inkiesonline.com and they should last you a long time.

Hi ghwellsjr, in fact you can buy the older BCI-6 compatible Inktec ink for the red and green colours, that's no problem at all. In germany 1 liter (about 34 oz) costs 33.-. Strangely enough the newer CLI-8 compatible ink from Inktec comprehends only the 6 CcMmYK colours + pigment PGI-5Bk colours.

So I could use a combination of CLI-8 (CcMmYK) and BCI-6 (RG) compatible Inktec ink, but I think that the newer CLI-8 ink has a better fade resistance and combining both inks in my printer would give prints on which some colours (RG) fade much faster than others, which could give undesirable and pronounced colour shifts over time. This is worse than all the colours fading in an equal manner: for the human eye this is more agreable.
