I saw a solution with the ink recognise problems and mayby i have found the source of this mechanical problem very likely the flap of the CD / DVD print option is not closed enough ( ) . The flap puches the rail upways, when open but this also carries the sensor and the reason if the flap is not closed enough the sensor in the rail isnt become as low as this needed to measure the light throu the Prisma ( on the bottom of each cardrige ) , some vazeline our other means slide the pins / better . I am not able to test this today but if the solution ill be glade ! :)

Canon IP4500 IP4300 IP4200 , any CD DVD jet printer .

Usually the printer knows when the CD/DVD flap is open and produces a "cover open" error (can't remember the exact code or error message).

I've noticed that the iP4200/4300/5200/4500 and even the MP500, etc... all tend to suffer with the flap opening up a little with little or no help but as a rule I've never seen them cause problems with the sensor, usually they just foul the paper as it comes out of the printer.
