Whats up guys I'm new here and I have a question for you inkjet professionals out there.:D I have 3 printers that all use
the same Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black color set, the printers are a HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 N(work printer using RJetTek ink),
a Epson Stylus CX4800(home printer using CISinks), Brother MFC-5840CN (bosses printer using OEM ink).

Can I just use the ink from RJetTek on the Epson and the Bother as well? I dont want to be collecting ink containers?

If you want to use the same inks in all of your printers then
I would strongly suggest you stick to the same brand of printer.

Mixing inks is not a good idea at all; it would be cheaper to use
the correct ink for each individual printer you now own..

Ok now I know in every deck of card there are at least 4 aces meaning loophopes.

This is my second question, I been studying ink and printers for the pass 2 weeks now and all im seeing is two defined types
Dye and Pigment inks. I know my Epson is Dye and the HP printer is Pigment I just need to find out the Brother printer ink type is.

Is ok to just buy one set of C,M,Y,B Dye and another set of Pigment? I know not to mix them

There are also two types of printheads, thermal and piezoelectric. The thermal printheads use heaters to create steam bubbles that eject the ink. The piezoelectric printheads have chambers or membranes made of a piezoelectric material. This material changes shape when a voltage is applied and ejects ink via a pumping action.

These different technology printheads need inks with different properties to function properly. Both types of printheads are used with both pigment and dye inks. This means that at least 4 different types of ink are needed.

The HP uses a thermal printhead, the Epson and possibly also the Brother use piezoelectric printheads.

So the use of a universal ink set is not recommended, instead you should use refill inks that are specifically made for each printer.

You can read more about inkjet printer technology here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inkjet_printing

I have been studying ink and printers for more than the past two years, and I still have a lot to learn. For further studies I recommend starting with this forum.

Your Epson may use dye inks but the HP uses both pigment and dye and the Brother also uses dye ink.

PeterBJ has already pointed out that there are 4 types of ink but there many more shades of colour inks
which are all different across the different brands of printer, so one colour ink set does not fit all..
