I just picked up a good used i9900 printer for $100 delivered. Going to Canon's website to get the driver for Windows 7 (which works fine) I noted an available firmware upgrade to Firmware Version 1.05. THis won't run under Win 7, but will under an XP box I have....

Anybody apply it? Did it make any difference?

it will likely end up giving more prime cycles in order to protect the printhead.

If you need the following change(s), please download and upgrade the firmware to version 1.05, following the procedures below.

- Changes from Ver.1.02/1.03 to Ver.1.05 -
- The printhead protecting function is improved.
- The print quality when the Grayscale Printing is activated is improved.
If you don't need either of these changes, there is no need to upgrade the printer's firmware. My i9900 is on an XP server and there was no problem connecting to a Vista-32 computer. However, it would not connect to a Win 7x64 machine, so I had to install the latest XP driver on the server to get it to connect. It now works fine with the printer's original firmware.
