The reason you don't find refill kits or reviews regarding refill kits is that the printers using these cartridges are old, 10 years or more. The HP 78 cartridge is same design and newer, so instructions for refill is easier to find. You could do a Google search on "Refill HP 78" for instructions and refill kits.

Many of the refill kits offered years ago were of dubious quality with no-name inks and too short needles, making it impossible to get ink in the right place and causing air locks. So I cannot recommend a kit, but you could make your own kit.

To properly refill those cartridges with their very tall sponges, you have to inject the ink at the bottom of the sponge. You will need a special long needle for this. 70 mm is minimum but if you can find a 80 or 90 mm needle, it is better. But note that maximum allowable injection depth is 73 mm for the centre chamber and 80 mm for the outer chambers. Injecting any deeper could puncture the filter at the nozzle chamber and ruin the cartridge. An instruction (in German) is here: http://www.hstt.net/news/download/HSTT - Refillanleitung HP C6578.pdf . If you don't read German you could try Google Translate or just check out the pictures. A similar instruction for the black cartridge is here: http://www.hstt.net/news/download/Refill-FAQ-51645.pdf .

After refill you may need to remove air from the nozzle chambers. you can use a priming tool for this or you could use an alternative approach to removing air, "Jacks Down Under Refill Method". Link here: http://home.arcor.de/jackspage/rat78ne.html. Jacks site has a wealth of information about older HP cartridges, start page here: http://home.arcor.de/jackspage/ .The site is not updated any more and it only works sporadically. But you can use the "way-back machine" to find the site.

An "empty" cartridge still contains residual ink, so only 80% of the rated capacity should be injected. For the tri-color cartridges divide the capacity by 3 and inject 80% of that in each chamber.

For inks see this: http://home.eol.ca/~mikling/HP Ink Listing.html . The proper inks for your cartridges are H0244D for cyan, H06063D for magenta and H7003D for yellow. The seller has this ink set for HP tri-color cartridges on Ebay: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/HP-Printers-.../200592996214?pt=BI_Toner&hash=item2eb4463776 The yellow ink is another type, but maybe that doesn't matter or maybe you could buy a set with the specific inks for your cartridges, if you contact the seller?

These cartridges are not exactly easy to refill and get working again maybe due to air locks. A good thing is to never let the cartridges run dry by topping up frequently.

Good luck with refilling.
Peter.
