The HP 21 and 22 and other cartridges have a serial number burned into a PROM at the time of manufacture. Some printers remember the two last cartridge serial numbers, both for tricolor and black, of the cartridges that have been installed. If the printer determines that a cartridge is empty, it refuses to print using that cartridge.

There are a couple of tricks to circumvent that, the 3 cartridge trick and the tape trick. See this thread: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=6211 . Also see this for the tape trick: http://resetters.blogspot.dk/2009/04/ink-level-reset-for-hp-cartidges-hp21.html

Your cartridges may also be defective, these cartridges seem to be fragile and burn out easily if they run empty. It is recommended never to let them run dry but keep them topped up. In case of defective cartridges you will need to buy new or remanufactured cartridges.

I try the method with the tape but the problem remain..
I saw that when i put only the black cartridge in the printer, only the ink led blink. But when i remove the black ink and put only the tri-color cartdridge the ink led and the power led both blinking..
Maybe one cartridge has the problem..
ANy ideas for the leds..?Maybe tell the problem the blinking led.

I don't know if the blinking of only the ink led with the black cartridge inserted and the blinking of both ink and power leds with the tri-color cartridge only inserted means that the tri-color cartridge is defective? maybe this link is helpful? : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...lc=en&product=441115&tmp_track_link=ot_search

I have had HP 56 & 57 (similar to 21 & 22) cartridges being rejected after a refill, they were OK but empty before the refill.

Do you have other cartridges so you could try "The 3 cartridge trick"?

If another tri-color cartridge causes only the cartridge led to blink, that could indicate your first tri-color cartridge is defective.

Dirty contact points on the cartridges and in the cartridge carriage can also cause the cartridges to be rejected. You could try cleaning the contacts with a piece of soft tissue paper moistened with isopropyl alcohol or even plain water. If you use water make sure the contacts are completely dry before inserting the cartridges.

Edit: I forgot to mention: Disconnect the power cord before cleaning the contacts in the printhead carriage.
