I have an HP photosmart c5280 USB printer that for some reason, has started to disconnect itself from my computer while I try to print a document. When I am ready to print a document, I turn on my printer and once it has been detected send it to the printer. This has worked for the past year or so, but now I am having problems. When I turn on my printer, it tries to reinstall itself even though the drivers are on the computer. I have tried replacing the USB cable and a fresh printer install, but that has not helped the situation. The final odd thing is that after one disconnection and one partial print, the printer starts working normally. I am running Windows XP and using the HP drivers and software that came with the printer. I do not think this is a problem with my computer because it is currently running stably and all of my other USB devices work fine. Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks in advance for any help.

It's been about a week and my printer is now working as long as I leave it on all the time. It seems that as long as the printer is on before XP starts, it doesn't have a problem.
