Does anybody know the weights of new and unused HP 564 (US) / HP 364 (EU) cartridges both dye and pigment black and both normal and XL?

They have changed with time.
Here's what I have for the most recent 564XL's, new as received, with vent opened and outlet port cover removed:
M564XL: 25.36 g
PK564XL: 24.17 g

Thank you very much. Do you also have the weight for the XL pigment black? Do you also know the nominal capacity in ml? And do you also know these figures for the non-XL versions of the cartridges?

I looked, and it turns out that I do have some data for non-XL that I forgot about. Gross weights are full, new. Capacities are calculated from new - empty weight when the monitor says it's empty. (I don't have a date on these -- maybe 2 to 4 years ago. I think they are the new style with less ink.)

C564 20.76 g, holds 2.90 g (monitor says empty)
M564 20.32 g, holds 2.83 g (monitor says empty)
Y564 20.73 g, holds 2.68 g (monitor says empty)
PK564 21.44 g, holds >2.90 g (monitor says not empty)
K564 29.57 g, holds 6.86 g (empty warning)

Here's what I have for an older(?) yellow XL.
Y564XL 27.55 g full, 20.01 g when about 20% full, roughly 18.26 g(??) projected when empty.

I usually use an old set of XL cartridges that I don't have initial weights for. I figure they are empty at around 21-22 g gross weight, and I fill before that. I usually add about 5-6 g, but sometimes as much as 9 g! I figure the pigment black cartridge holds 30 g of ink, although I sometimes get almost 32. I vacuum fill, so I don't really fill by weight, although I do weigh before and after filling.

The new cartridges have very different weights, but I'm not sure how they differ. I can check all these cartridge model numbers if you want. That may help to differentiate between new and old fill levels.

Thank you for the additional info. :) With these totally opaque cartridges you need to know the original weights to make sure you have refilled the cartridges properly, and weighing is the only way of monitoring ink usage.

I found this HP webpage stating the capacities in ml in the HP 564 and HP 564 XL cartridges. Note that these ink amounts are nominal, i.e. the amount of ink used in manufacturing the cartridges. One ml or more cannot be used, as you cannot empty the cartridges completely.

Those are pretty much in line with what I have. The only thing is their K564XL, which they fill to only 14 mL. I routinely load the older cartridges with 30 g! I have one record of adding over 36g. I don't think the cartridge has physically changed size. Unless they added a baffle, then they must be grossly underfilling them.

I don't have factory-filled weights for most of my XL cartridges, so I have to guess a little. I can't control the weights very well anyway with vacuum filling. It's hard to overfill them by much. I usually just let them drain a minute or two while I prepare for the next cartridge (they sometimes drip a drop or two), and then take out a little (maybe 1/2 to 1 mL). That's how I determine the full weights. They usually drain within a few seconds if they're overfilled. I very occasionally get careless and have one drain a little after installation, and I have even contaminated other colors a smidgen, but after one print, all seems fine.

It looks like page yield is adjusted by adjusting the amount of ink used at manufacture. For both normal and XL versions of the dye cartridges different ink amounts are used for the c, m, and y for the same page yield.

M564XL: 25.36 g
PK564XL: 24.17 g
I just refilled those, and indeed they can hold a lot more ink. Final weights:
M564XL: 27.10 g
PK564XL: 28.50 g.
Refilled by the Freedom method with three pumps of the syringe. I think they would have taken more -- probably close to 30 g -- but I don't need to push it.

As sold, the cartridges were not full, although they probably held the promised amount of ink and delivered the promised number of pages. Both cartridges were shown as empty, although there was still ink left. Magenta lost 7.15 g, compared to the nominal capacity of 7.5 g; PK lost 5.87 g (unspecified capacity). 969 nonstandard pages were printed; HP promises 750 standard pages.

I add these cartridges (empty) also:
HP 932: 19.65 g
Hp 933XL: 19.54 g.
