i had a hp 564 cartridge laying around from a friend, the chip was removed to put on a aftermarket cartridge but the aftermarket cartridge would not feed properly, i pealed the top label back, on the sponge side i found a hole above the sponge side (everyone now knows that there is no hole connecting the resevoir side to the sponge side) an 18 gauge 1 1/2" needle will push right in and is the right lenght to reach the bottom. i believe that anyone using these cartridges can inject several mils of ink and still print there still is no resetter for these yet but at least you can use bulk ink

Maybe you could try something like a german durchstich method, but only in the sponge compartement, so up to the point the needle is stuck against the compartment hole, turn the cartridge upside down, with the ink outlet facing upwards and slowly inject up to maximum 5 ml's of ink into it. This way you will decrease the chances of ink leaking from the outlet hole up to a miminum, as the ink will travel downwards tot the top of the cartridge and pushing the air from the sponge steadily away from the cartridge/sponge. Remove the needle and turn the cartridge back to its original position, with the ink outlet port facing down over the ink bottle and see if any ink is dripping from the cartridge. Since you do not need or can to push the needle up to the (unreachable) ink compartment, now you can actually perform the german Durchstich refill method with a much shorter needle.

there is no need to make a new hole as the manufactor,'s is perfect, that is a good idea to turn it upside down, also to slowly remove the needle as the ink is injected, the unknown is the weight of a new cartridge, as the sides are non-transparent and the amount of ink added would be a quesstamate, these cartridges also have a plastic ball on the resevoir side, why there is no path from the resevior to the sponge these carts are a 95% canon clone

market differentation: the 364 XL are connected with the ink compartment and have a much larger page yield and on these cartridges the famous Durchstich refill method can be performed, as the needle can enter the ink compartment. Therefore your friend should purchase one set of 364 XL cartridges and refill them using this method. Maybe he can get a set of empty XL cartridges somewhere and refill them.
