Hello,

Its happened again... Another Epson printer has failed on me... my third, an Epson C66... "sigh"

Yes despite only ever being used with genuine ink after previous printers suffered with blocked nozzles I only ever used genuine ink in my C66 and after very light use it has decided it won't pump ink from any new cartriges I put in it. So obviously I need a new printer and not an Epson, their previous failures do not warrant any further custom from me.

So I have just spent several hours trawling the net looking for reviews of decentish cheap photo printers, and have come accross this most excellent forum. The problem is half the reviews I read on other websites CNET etc make no mention of running costs or the print yield of the printers.

Why oh why oh why is there not a standard?... e.g. manufacturers are required to list how many copies of a default photo their printer can print on each of its main quality settings so I can properly compare them

Why oh why oh why do they not list the capacity of their ink cartridges most of the time? Why do not they say whether the ink cartridge also contains the print head?

Most important of all why does the ink cost 7 times more than vintage champagne!?!?!?!?!? Money grabbing %$*"^$

Anyways enough rantings does anyone know if there is a running cost or print yield comparison table available.

I have been considering the cannon ip3600 or a cheap lexmark Z2320???

Just want a printer that will print reasonable photos, and not cost an arm and a leg to buy and run. Not bothered about printing directly from memory cards etc, I prefer to check them out on my PC first

Any help would be much appreciated.

I know this is going off topic but presumably your problem is that the printer is clogged solidly and doesn't want to print. If so, I do have a suggestion as to how you can get it running again that would cost about 2 days of patience and the price of some ammoniated cleaning solution.

If that'd help, I'll post up the process to take a crack at :)

No I don't believe its clogged. It was printing fine until the black the ran out, put in a new black cartridge and then no black. Ran the cleaning cycle and nozzle check a dozen times till one of the colours ran out, so I put in a new red cartridge and then no red ink either, so I'm pretty sure its knackered. I'm just using it to print labels in blue at the moment till that cartridge is empty then its goin out with the trash

It's possible that the waste tube has disconnected from the parking/cleaning pad.

This page should help find out if it is the cause.
