I'm trying to clean my waste ink absorbers, but so far have only managed to remove the side and top panels from my printer before getting stuck. I've read the service manual but it doesn't tell you what to do after removing the side and top panels. I've also looked at Neil Slade's website and am still none the wiser. If anyone can provide idiot-proof instructions it would be much appreciated.

thanks

Jane

The parts catalog for the iP5200 might also be helpful as it contains some assembly drawings. It is found here: http://www.arbikas.com/view/locator/PIXMA_IP5200.pdf .

Druckerchannel.de has an excellent article about changing the ink absorbers in the iP4200 and the iP5200. This article is in German, but you could use Google Translate if you don't read German. Link to the article here: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artike...entank_bei_canon_pixma_ip4200_ip5200_tauschen or a Google translation: http://translate.google.dk/translat...entank_bei_canon_pixma_ip4200_ip5200_tauschen

The Google translation is not perfect, but comparing to the article about changing ink absorbers in the iP4000, which is also available in English might be helpful: http://www.druckerchannel.de/artikel.php?ID=1831&t=workshop_change_waste_ink_tank_canon_pixma_ip4000

The iP5200r is mechanically very similar to the iP5200 so the instructions are also suitable for the iP5200r.

Be aware that service manuals for many Canon printers of the PGI-5/CLI-8 generation are faulty, the miss a very important step 5 in the instructions for the service mode operations, see this: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=7171

I moved this answer here from the other thread to avoid double posting. Could you also to avoid double posting please delete your post in the other thread?: http://www.nifty-stuff.com/forum/viewtopic.php?pid=65028#p65028

Good luck with the project.
Peter.

Thanks for that, I've deleted the other post and will look into the German article.

You are welcome, and thanks for correcting the double posting. :) I have made similar beginner's errors myself.
