I have temporarily run out of my pigment black and as such any documents i print dont really print.

So how can i force my Canon MP780 (same as IP4000) to print using the dye black.

Note: I suspect its the pigment black that has run out because when i print a word doc it doesnt print properly, and when i print a CD/DVD disc, everything appears fine.

Thanks in advance!

Just tell it you are printing on any photo paper--matte would probably be best.

Continuing to print when an ink cartridge is empty will damage the print head, posibly beyond repair. Even if you're not printing in that colour the heat build up from the rest of the nozzels is enough to dry and solidify any remaining ink.

But as ghwellsjr has said the photopaper setting will probably do it, although I heard it would only work on the photo paper pro setting....
