Hi

I have a canon i560 and for the last couple years I have buying canon ink but now I am starting to think of buying generic ink. I use to have a old epson printer and we started buy refill kits and all of a sudden it started not to print out as well. This could have been from the ink we where buying(this was like a refill kit you can buy from a store that refills almost every printer on the sun) or it could just have been because the printer was like 10 years old.

Either way this turned me off from buying generic ink. I am now reconsidering it. I am seeing that buying ink for the canon i560 is getting expensive. Like I bought color ink 4 months ago and its already out and I don't use color ink that that much(but still need it so not having is not an alternative) and I print everything in draft mode. It the same thing with black it runs out pretty fast(I used black ink more though but still usually on draft mode).

So I figure I pay about $250can a year on just ink. Thats quite a bit since I think that was about the price of the canon printer(maybe even less I can't remember now I bought it like 3 years ago). Even though say the ink would break the printer after a year then the amount of money I would have saved would be enough to probably buy a new printer but I like this printer but at the same time I don't like paying so much for ink.

So I am trying to find a good site that sells good quality ink. I am finding this hard since they all claim there ink is good so its hard to tell.

I been looking at 123inkjets.com since they got pretty good prices and ship to Canada. However I am not sure how good there ink is.

Also I am not sure what I should be getting should I get a refill kit where I refill it myself since many sites claim their refill kits are high quality inks made in the U.S.A(forgot the site it was something 123- they seem to like start with 123) but the ones that are already filled up they don't mention where they where made and if the ink is that high quality. The problem is if I go this route I will eventually need to buy a new cartage since I hear they only can be refilled so many times(another reason why our epson printer could have broken we used the same cartage dozens of times)

I also saw some sites that where on this site.

http://www.atlanticinkjet.com/
http://www.inkdepot.biz/c

not sure if they all sell the same stuff

So can anyone help me out?

edit

I think this might be the site that has the made in usa refill kit. http://www.123-refills.com/comuninkjetr.html

Also its important to note one more thing it has to be still pretty cheap prices. Like I for color ink it has to be alot less then $15.79can and for black $17. So if the ink and shipping make the cost like $10+ for like color and like $12+ I would have to think about it like sure I am saving $5 but at the same time is that little bit of savings worth the risk.

Hobbicolors inks - he sells on e-bay. Have been using these inks for about two years in ip4000 and ip6000D. Others on this forum also use it. Also have heard MIS inks are good, but I don't have personal experience. Yes, cartridges can only be refilled so many times until they stop feeding ink correctly - purging them often brings them back to top shape. Do a forum search on both refilling and purging.

The reason your Epson cartridges did not print well after refilling is that they were sponge based and eventually develop microbubbles which are the enemy of the Epson Piezo head. It is not surprising that you obtained unsatisfactory results after a few refills. Also similar issues that afflict the Canon sponge also afflict the Epson sponge but it arrives sooner because the Epson held all the ink within the sponge. The sponge makeup also played a part. Newer Epson spongeless cartridges are not subject to the same problem but have or will become illegal in the USA within 2 weeks.

Prefilled cartridges are dominated by imports from the Far East and generally they do not have a consistent supply of ink or can't be relied upon to be. That is why the resellers cannot promise the quality of ink contained within them. It can vary because the wholesale prices of these compatibles are so low that all the wholesalers care about for these is the selling price and the ink is colored ...literally...Accuracy? the price is king.

You should try refilling. It is very low cost and with any care at all, you will have good results. I use Image Specialists Inks and the best price and service is from http://www.precisioncolors.com/. They sell through eBay and are located in Canada.

At the price of refill ink, you won't have to print in draft mode. It is literally 1/10 the cost for ink, and good quality ink too. It pays to stick with a known brand. It seems that most people have good results from refilling the original manufacturers cartridges rather than aftermarket ones.

I am happy I went to this forum and asked since I had my doubts on it.

Hey do Hobbicolors and Image Specialists Inks sell the same inks they look almost the same.

If there not the same I am not sure which one is better since I bet you both know what your talking about.

I am wondering how do you guys deal with replacing the cartridge? Do you guys have to go buy named brand ones every once in a while or can you get empty ones? How many times can you use a cartridge on average?

edit

I went to the Image Specialists ebay store and I can't find refill kit ink for the canon i560 I find there ebay store hard to navigate.... so it it just me or do they not have it?

I also love the fact that the ink is made specially for each printer and not one color for every printer under the sun.

The i560 uses the BCI-6/BCI-3eBK series of ink. For Hobbicolors you can use the UW-8 (for the CLI-8 based printers) with no problems at all, albeit the colours might be a little bit darker.

Cool but I think I will try the ones from PrecisionColors first and see how it goes.

I am still unclear on how many times I can refill my old cartridges and how I can get replacements for them(without having to go and buy the expensive canon ones again)? I am not sure if you can just get empty cartridges.

Check on e-bay - that is where I have bought empty cartridges from two different sellers. Check this listing:

Even though he is selling a set that has PM and PC that your printer doesn't need, he has posted at times that he can supply other sets. Send him a question and see if he can supply what you want/need.

what did u use to search on ebay to get that? I also heard of sponge less cartridges are they any good? and if so where can you get them?

Also they have to ship to Canada.... I probably could email this guy and ask if he could ship to Canada but he might not.

chobo2,
It does look like the link that I gave you only ships to the US - he used FedEx to send my order. It wouldn't hurt to ask him anyways. I think I used something like "empty BCI6 cartridges" when I did the search.
