I recently purchased a Pro-300. When I went to buy the printer itself I found that it was out of stock at several well know retailers, B&H, Adorama, Freestyle, Canon itself, I Did find it on Amazon and it said it came from Canon Store. I am very happy with the results and went looking for a backup set of carts and could not find the set, but did find that B&H had all 10 separately. Does anyone know what is the deal with the hard-to-get ink? Is it due to COVID, did Canon get caught blind-sided with regard to demand?

Ah, so you want to buy the whole set together in hopes of getting them cheaper, that only makes sense if you’re not waiting on them, this is the most obvious but did you try the Canon store/website..?

Actually, in hopes of getting them at all. The saving is only about $7 so while I do like saving money, it was more important to me to have them on hand for when they ran out. I rarely buy ink tank sets for my other printer (A canon MX922) but because I have not have used up any of the inks in the 300 yet, I wanted to have them all. The Canon store is out of stock on the set, but they do have them all separately.

In case a full set is not available, I would stock first the most used inks.
When you print glossy it is CO, next is GY. MBK and R take a long time to get empty.

Enjoy your printer !

Thanks, palombian, I did get all 10 from B&H so I have backups and will make a note to watch the CO and GY tanks. I have been printing on Canon Pro Luster and some Red River Satin and Polar Matt so far. I have some glossy but have not printed on it yet.

Luster and Satin use as much CO as Glossy.
Luster gives the best result with pigment ink IMO.

I have been very happy with the results from the Luster, but I do love the look of the Polar Mat, especially for old restored photos. We do a fair amount of restoration in our studio ( I have a portrait wedding studio in Central California) Does the CO also get used with the Matt?

If the Pro300 is like the Pro10 in this matter, all media in the Photo papers category of the driver uses only photo black ink, including generic 'matt photo paper'. Matt black ink is used for ordinary paper and media within Fine-Art papers category, including Canon Matt Premium Pro paper.
If you ask me, it seems a bit weird to use photo black ink for generic matt paper but Canon decided to do it this way. I assume that chroma optimizer is used only for gloss/satin/luster photo paper, not for any kind of matt media.

Epson, Canon, HP... A "few"
Gentle side topic on this that I wanted to introduce... I know you're in the North America's but if you could please collect those empties as you use them up and stick the orange clips on them they will have a ready market for resale from folk like myself who will be remanufacturing them.

Even the orange clips have value on their own so please don't chuck them out or into recycling.

websnail. Thanks for the tip. I will do that. Unfortunately, the clips are gone from the original carts that came with the printer, but as I add new ones I will save them.
