I have the MG8150 and already refilled 3 cli 521 cartridges for it. Thanks to all your help and support I did it quite easily using the German method. Now my dilemma is the grey cartridge. I only have used black cli 521`s so the grey will probably have to go into one of them.

Do I need to purge the cart first ?
What happens if I do not purge it and just insert the grey ink? Will the black ink eventually be all used and becomes all grey? I do not mind wasting a bit of ink as its quite reasonably priced.

What I can also do is buy a new CLI 521 grey cart . Are all cli 521 semi transparent and thus easy to fill or the newer ones are black like my original CLI 526 ?

Thanks again guys...could not have done it without you !

If you are going to use a black cartride for your grey they it would be wiser to purge the remaining ink out of the cartridge first.

The yellow cartridge would be a much better substitute than the black I reckon;
you can also use a piece of the original grey label to stick over the excising one which ever cartridge you choose.

Just refill with some water as you do into the reservoir instead of ink and then blow on the air inlet to remove the remaining ink and water.
Do that a couple of times then let the cartridge dry next put your grey ink in and blow that out once and refill with the grey again and use.

As you say you could always buy a new 521 grey which would be the quicker and better option..:)
