Hi all,

I have been searching on the web for weeks but still can't find any information on Refilling HP 56, 74XL by the German method. I have asked the ink supplier and their technician said he heard some people have tried to adopt this method but none has succeed.

I have all the ink, syringe and needles to refill my Canon MX870(btw. Anyone knows if I can refill a HP cartridge using Canon formulated ink?) I have a friend has 2 HP printers and want me to refill for him. I don't want to use the top inject method because I need to replace the paper labels, would tape works well if I just pierce a needle whole one of the top openings for refill? Will it leak if I just use scotch tape to cover the needle hole?

I would like to know if anyone has successfully adapt the German method on HP 56 or XL cartridges? Why it won't work on HP cartridges? If I order replacement labels, do I have to match the model numbers? Where would be a nice place to order these labels(US/Canada)? I saw one ink supplier have labels but it doesn't carried these two models.

Any sharing/suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you very much guys.

Actually these cartridges most be refilled from the breathing hole: the german refill method can only be performed on the HP 364XL and similar cartridges. Just pierce the needle through the paper labels and tape them after refill.

Thank you pharmacist.

However, do you know why German filling method won't work on these old cartridges? I like them to be airtight. I heard many many guys having leaking causing a mess inside the printer -- with top refilling. Is the needle hole so tiny that a tape can seal the hole and make the cartridge air tight again? Labels are kind of expansive, I saw them on Rjettek(and guys check their OCP ink! They are even better than my canon manufactured ink) cost 0.36 for HP 56!

I really like the German method and want to save a dollar on replacing the label for every refill lol.

Thanks guys.
